Electricity production
Latvenergo AS is the leading electricity and thermal energy producer in Latvia. More than half of the electricity consumed in Latvia is generated in our power plants.
The power production process at our company is based on two types of energy sources:
- renewable energy sources: hydro-, wood fuel- and wind power plants and boiler houses (Pļaviņas HPP, Riga HPP, Ķegums HPP, Aiviekste HPP, Ainaži WPP, Ķegums boiler house);
- highly efficient cogeneration at gas-fired power plants (Riga TEC-1, Riga TEC-2 etc.).
More and more emphasis is being put on “green” energy production. This has led both to the reconstruction of HPP facilities and to research of new energy production solutions. Coping with the environmental requirements is a self-evident necessity in today’s world, and we must take the environmental protection factors into account. Therefore, Latvenergo AS is increasing its focus on the importance of a unified environmental protection system. Facility modernisation is only one of the steps towards implementing an environmentally friendly economy.
